Background: a customer in the energy sector had a very complex communication structure. The department for information structure works closely together with the back office for master data related to gas and electricity. This cooperation gave rise to the following problems:
- Who will own master data and who will collect which data?
- Could a potential process be created and visualized?
- How will these processes be documented and/or recorded?
At first, we created an overview of the existing master data (“as is”) for the stakeholders. In close cooperation with the customer, we developed a management structure to monitor the master data, before introducing a clear, defined process for master data changes. We created and visualized the processes for dealing with master data with support and buy-in from all internal stakeholders (e.g., financial management and risk management).
After defining and visualizing these processes, a concrete action plan was established. All processes are now stored on the Intranet to enable easy internal access to the entire process structure for master data.
